POSITION SUMMARY
United Way Worldwide (UWW) is actively seeking a seasoned senior leader to expand and deepen the impact of its Africa Region. The Vice President, Regional Engagement and Support - Africa will lead the strategic, programmatic, and operational activities for the International Network (IN) of United Way Worldwide in the three Network Partner countries (Ghana, Nigeria, and South Africa) where UWW currently operates, with an eye towards strengthening and growing the number of countries in the region in the years to come.
The Vice President will act as the primary relationship manager between UWW, the region, and Network Partners within the region, and will serve as a trusted leader and thought partner to Network Partners as they identify and respond to local and national challenges and opportunities within their respective countries.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President, International Network, the Vice President will interface with local and national partner organizations to help address challenges, leverage opportunities, build stronger communities, and measurably improve lives throughout the region across UWWs key impact areas: 1) youth opportunity, 2) healthy community, 3) financial security, and 4) community resiliency.
The Vice-President is an experienced leader with outstanding strategic and relationship development skills who leverages these talents to support UWWs mission of improving lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF POSITION:
The Vice President, Regional Engagement and Support is adept at crafting and implementing a clear strategic direction, fostering strong teams and a positive culture, inspiring results through others, and forming robust relationships throughout the region. The Vice President will:
Regional Engagement, Development, and Support
- Serve as the primary representative for UWW in the region and act as a source of information about relevant trends, perspectives, and activities of other organizations and individuals working on similar and related issues
- Lead engagement with and provide expert advice and guidance to Network Partners to support their programmatic, operational, and fundraising activities throughout the region
- With support from UWWs Impact and Development teams, support Network Partners, as appropriate, with program design, delivery, and evaluation across UWWs four impact areas.
- Identify and support organizational needs of Network Partners, including efforts to generate resources and implement innovations and best practices that can be applied across the region and globally
- Create an interconnected and inclusive network within the region by: i) leading the development and staffing of a volunteer Regional Advisory Council charged with guiding and assisting with the execution of the regional strategy, ii) creating opportunities for learning and development among Network Partner CEOs, and iii) planning and hosting periodic regional meetings.
- Coach and support regional staff members to ensure high performance, leadership development, strong culture, and effective use and monitoring of financial and staff resources
Operations and Governance
- Develop and manage the implementation of the regional strategic plan, including working with Network Partners to implement the Thriving United Way Framework to develop goals, metrics, and workplans for the region
- Support and ensure the timely fulfillment of Network Partner requirements for membership compliance and good standing, including completion and submission of Network Partner data, dues payments, and other key responsibilities and obligations of UWW membership.
- Assist Network Partners with strengthening their governance structures and frameworks to ensure their effective growth, governance, and impact
External Engagement and Partnership
- Build regional and global resource mobilization capacity of Network Partners and lend support to their fundraising efforts, as appropriate
- Work with UWW leadership and staff to establish sustainable partnerships and cultivate new funding opportunities with and from worldwide organizations to support resource development for UWW, Network Partners, and the region.
- Consult with local and multinational corporations to develop workplace campaigns, employee volunteer programs, and community projects
- Craft a strategy for establishing a strong presence in the region, elevating UWW and Network Partners visibility among key nonprofit, corporate, and government stakeholders to enhance regional relationships, reputation, and impact.
International Network Team Leadership and Support
- Work with the International Network team leadership and UWW leadership to identify and recommend growth opportunities to expand the organizations footprint within the region, as appropriate
- Assist in the development and implementation of UWW and International Network goals and priorities, including the UWW Transformation and IN strategic plan.
- Collaborate with other departments within UWW to identify common issues across program areas and develop joint activities and related resource development opportunities, as appropriate.
- Collaborate with UWWs Executive Leadership Team, the EVP, the other regional Vice Presidents, and other key internal stakeholders to inform the culture and priorities of the UWW global organization, as appropriate.

JOB REQUIREMENTS
Minimum requirements include:
- Bachelors degree required, with at least 15 years of professional experience and 5 years of leadership and/or management experience
- Proven experience in senior leadership roles, with the ability to guide and manage teams effectively, and to inspire and mobilize both internal teams and external partners
- Demonstrated ability to design, manage, and implement effective strategies across UWWs key impact areas
- Deep understanding of the regions diverse cultural, social, and political landscapes. Must have lived and worked extensively in the region
- Exceptional skills in building and nurturing relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, including Network Partners, funders, corporations, and government entities
- Experience in fundraising and resource development across a variety of different partnership and philanthropic giving models
- Experience working across multiple cultures, working styles, and other differences.
- Strong analytical ability to assess needs, identify opportunities, and measure outcomes effectively
- Possess a sense of possibility in mindset and vision, and able to lead with creativity, innovation, and initiative to address opportunities and challenges within the region
- Ability to thrive in a complex environment with multiple priorities, navigate ambiguity, and create pathways or solutions where none currently exist
- Excellent oral and written proficiency in one or more languages regularly utilized within the region; and strong English oral and written skills required.
- Strong fiscal management skills and Microsoft Office Suite skills

SALARY STATEMENT
The budgeted lifespan salary range for this position is currently $120,000 to $150,000 per year. Salary is determined by several factors including applicants knowledge, skills, experience, position, equity, and market.
