We are seeking a dynamic and visionary Chief Operating Officer (COO) to join our leadership team and help us scale our operations while ensuring operational excellence.

Role Overview

The Chief Operating Officer (COO) will play a pivotal role in overseeing the day-to-day operations of the NGO, ensuring alignment with its strategic goals and mission. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the COO will lead cross-functional teams, optimize internal processes, manage resources effectively, and foster a culture of accountability and innovation. This is a hybrid role based in Lekki, Lagos, requiring both on-site presence and remote work flexibility.

Key Responsibilities1. Strategic Leadership

  • Collaborate with the CEO and senior leadership team to define and execute the organizations strategic plan.
  • Translate the NGOs vision into actionable operational goals and ensure their successful implementation.
  • Monitor performance metrics and provide regular updates to the board and stakeholders.

2. Operational Management

  • Oversee all operational functions, including program delivery, finance, HR, IT, and administration.
  • Streamline processes to improve efficiency, reduce costs, and enhance service delivery.
  • Ensure compliance with legal, regulatory, and donor requirements.

3. Financial Oversight

  • Work closely with the finance team to prepare budgets, track expenditures, and manage cash flow.
  • Provide input on financial strategies to support long-term sustainability.
  • Conduct periodic reviews of financial reports to identify areas for improvement.

4. Team Leadership & Development

  • Build and mentor a high-performing team by fostering collaboration, professional growth, and accountability.
  • Develop policies and procedures that promote diversity, equity, and inclusion within the workplace.
  • Resolve conflicts and address challenges faced by staff or departments.

5. Stakeholder Engagement

  • Represent the NGO at external events, meetings, and conferences to strengthen relationships with donors, partners, and government agencies.
  • Cultivate new partnerships and funding opportunities to support organizational growth.
  • Act as a liaison between the NGO and its beneficiaries, ensuring their needs are prioritized in decision-making.

6. Program Oversight

  • Supervise the design, implementation, and evaluation of programs to ensure they meet objectives and deliver measurable impact.
  • Identify opportunities to scale successful initiatives and adapt them to new contexts.
  • Ensure timely reporting to donors and stakeholders on program outcomes.

Qualifications & ExperienceEducation

  • A Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Public Administration, Social Sciences, or a related field.
  • A Masters degree (MBA, MPA, or equivalent) is highly preferred.

Professional Experience

  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience, preferably in the nonprofit sector.
  • Proven track record of managing complex operations and driving organizational growth.
  • Experience working with international donors, NGOs, or multilateral organizations is an advantage.

Skills & Competencies

  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in budgeting, financial management, and data analysis.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and lead change in dynamic environments.
  • Passion for social impact and commitment to the NGOs mission.
