Pharmacist

The Pharmacist will play a vital role in ensuring the safe, effective use of medications across our hospital. This individual will oversee all aspects of pharmacy operations, including drug procurement, storage, compounding, dispensing, and monitoring. The Pharmacist will work closely with physicians, nurses and other clinicians to optimize medication therapies and ensure the best possible outcomes for our patients

Responsibilities:

• Manage all pharmacy operations, ensuring compliance with hospital policies and regulatory requirements.
• Review and process medication orders, ensuring accuracy, safety and appropriateness of therapy.
• Dispense medications in a timely, accurate manner. Provide instructions for safe administration.
• Compound sterile and non-sterile medications as needed, following USP 797 and 795 standards.
• Monitor drug therapy for effectiveness, safety and adherence. Recommend adjustments as needed.
• Provide medication education and counseling to patients and families.
• Collaborate with physicians and nurses to optimize medication regimens and resolve drug-related problems.
• Manage the drug formulary and inventory. Ensure adequate supply while minimizing waste and cost.
• Oversee the pharmacy’s quality assurance and improvement programs. Track and report key metrics.
• Stay current with new drugs, indications and guidelines. Educate staff on medication updates.
• Perform other administrative duties as and when required.
• And to perform other duties that may be assigned by management from time to time.

Requirements:

• Bachelor of Pharmacy (B.Pharm.) or Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree from an accredited institution.
• Valid licensure from the Pharmacists Council of Nigeria (PCN) with no restrictions or sanctions.
• At least 5 years of experience as a clinical pharmacist, ideally in a hospital setting.
• In-depth knowledge of pharmacology, pharmacokinetics, drug interactions and adverse effects.
• Familiarity with Nigerian and international standards for safe medication use, including the National Drug Policy and the WHO Good Pharmacy Practice guidelines.
• Proven ability to manage pharmacy operations efficiently while ensuring the highest standards of quality and safety.
• Strong collaboration and communication skills. Able to partner effectively with multi-disciplinary teams.
• Commitment to patient-centered care and continuous learning.
• Additional certification in a specialty area (e.g., oncology, pediatrics, critical care) is a plus.
• Proficient in the use of pharmacy management software and electronic health record systems.
• Ability to adapt to change and implement change initiatives.
• Must be eloquent and exude confidence.
