Job overview

To ensure the confidentiality, integrity and availability of the schools information systems and data, protecting against cyber threats and maintaining compliance with relevant regulations. The IT/Data Security Officer will develop, implement and monitor the schools IT security policies, procedures and technologies, safeguarding sensitive information and maintaining the schools reputation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop and enforce IT Security policies and procedures
  • Conduct risk assessment and vulnerability testing
  • Implement security measures such as firewalls, antivirus, encryption
  • Ensure GDPR and UK Data Protection Act compliance
  • Manage data backup and recovery processes
  • Conduct data audits and ensure data accuracy
  • Monitor network activity and detect intrusions
  • Configure and maintain firewalls, VPNs and access controls
  • Ensure software updates and patch management
  • Develop and implement incident response plans
  • Investigate and respond to security incidents; communicate incidents to stakeholders
  • Stay updated on regulatory requirements
  • Provide staff training on IT security best practices
  • Conduct security awareness campaigns
  • Participate in IT service management processes
  • Ensure IT service continuity and disaster recovery

QUALIFICATION & EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Information Security, or a related field
  • IT Security certifications
  • Certification in data protection or information governance is a plus
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in IT security, preferably in the education sector
  • Strong knowledge of IT security frameworks
  • Experience with security technologies
  • Excellent problem solving, communication and analytical skills
  • Experience with cloud security and IT service management tools is a plus
  • Knowledge of data analytics and visualisation tools
  • Familiarity with educational IT systems is a plus
